A Safe Space for Everyone

LGBTQ+ individuals face elevated risk and unique barriers (discrimination, non-affirming services). Our hub explicitly welcomes and affirms those who identify as LGBTQ+, are neurodivergent, or live with a history of trauma with inclusive language, visibly safe space signage and trained staff.

  • People identifying as LGBTQ+ in England & Wales have a 2.5 time higher rate of intentional self-harm than straight/heterosexual people (1,508.9 per 100,000, compared with 598.4 per 100,000. [4]
  • The rate of suicide for LGBTQ+ people was 50.3 per 100,000 versus 23.1 per 100,000 for heterosexuals. [4]
  • According to the Mental Health Foundation: “Over half of LGBTIQ+ people had experienced depression, and 3 in 5 had experienced anxiety; 1 in 8 LGBTIQ+ people aged 18-24 had attempted to end their life.” [5]
  • The National Health Service site notes that mental-health problems are more common for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, partly due to discrimination, bullying, isolation or rejection. [6]

About Emily Bellaby

I am passionate about my work as a Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. My values as a human being and also a Psychotherapist very much align, in that I value; honesty, integrity, openness, causing no harm, uniqueness of others and their experience, acceptance without

judgement, equality, celebrating diversity and inclusivity, and the expansion of insight into ourselves and those around us. I believe that everyone has the right to meet their potentialin all areas of their life and also the natural ability to achieve this, but that sometimes the conditions for this have not been created which is something that therapy can offer.

My approach as a Clinical (Teaching) Supervisor reflects that of my approach to psychotherapy in that I work relationally / developmentally and from a trauma informed / inclusive perspective.
